Integral Policy

Integrated Policy - A Happy Organization

The main characteristic of Ship Repairing activity is that it provides multiple labor opportunities to people of a wide range of skills and competencies. All them, employees, subcontractors, providers, surveyors, technicians, etc., must work as a coordinated and committed team, efficient in costs and time frame, surrounded by risks for themselves and the environment. Therefore SOCIBER has the conviction that if we are able to achieve a happy working environment within our organization and for those who are affected, for good or bad, because of our activity, we will be condemn to success.

Nevertheless happiness is a conclusion of individual perceptions, SOCIBER demands that perception to be spanned all around the organization, to be the product of a collaborative attitude with the aim to achieve a happy working environment.

SOCIBER will focus its management on people, in achieving a reasonable balance in between their rights, duties, performances and productivity, without forgetting the mutual dependency of SOCIBER and Valparaiso's Maritime Community. In summary we will achieve the sustainability of our business, understanding a sustainable activity as, economically feasible, environmentally bearable and socially responsible.

On this purpose our becoming will follow an Integrated Policy that will embrace concepts as:

  • Occupational Safety & Health.
  • Promt & Early payment to Suppliers & Subcontractors
  • Security of our facilities.
  • Energy eficient & sustainable management
  • Environment friendly approach.
  • Process Management continuos improvement.

These concepts will be enforced in compliance with local legislative requirements, applicable and relevant agreements, global ship repairing standards and most of all, the ethical principles we say to sustain, strongly shaping the Corporate Social Responsibility - CSR, of SOCIBER Ltd.

On the purpose of validating and improving the quality level of the services our stock holders require and demand, SOCIBER will submit its Integral Management System - I.M.S., to the discipline, evaluation and certification required by the International Organization of Standarizations and other norms and regulations not necessarily included in I.S.O. Standards.

SOCIBER's I.M.S. is applicable at the Floating Dock "VALPARAÍSO III", its warehouse, workshop ans the so called Casa Cochrane, and its scope is the "Provision of Naval Repairs Services in Floating Dock". It subscribe to the following ISO Standards:

Occupational Safety & Health.

SOCIBER conceives Occupational Safety & Health as a cross discipline concerned with protecting the safety, health and welfare of people engaged in Ship Repairing. In a typical day at the ship yard, people are submitted to maritime technical standards and demanding time frames, an extremely stressed work environment.

Hence Occupational Safety & Health turns to be important for moral, legal, and financial reasons. Moral obligations involve the protection of employee's lives and health. Legal reasons for Occupational Safety & Health practices relate to the preventative, punitive and compensatory effects of laws that protect worker's safety and health. Occupational Safety & Health can also reduce employee injury and illness related costs, including medical care, sick leave and disability benefit costs.

At this regard we understand that Safety & Health care is based at an individual level that turns to be crucial for a collective Safe & Healthy environment. Safety & Health is concerned with professionalism and most of all, a responsible attitude. Works carried out on board must comply with safety preventive measures necessary to avoid and impede the occurrence of accidents. Ship's crew will obey instructions issued by the Accidents Prevention Department surveyors, who will carry out continuous surveillance and inspections to verify the fulfillment of safety instructions.

Therefore SOCIBER has embraced Occupational Safety & Health disciplines and practices as key role players in our Integrated Policy, being granted with OHSAS-18001:2007 certify since 2011.

Early payment to Suppliers & Subcontractors

SOCIBER cannot afford its activity without the active and committed participation of Subcontractors and Suppliers. Most of them small/medium regional entrepreneurs are demanded to achieve their job, just in time, effectively and time & costly efficient.

Therefore, consequently making ourselves part of our "partners" urgencies and pressures, SOCIBER has committed itself to stand our financial compromises, paying their services at minimum time.

As a consequence of this self imposed collaborative financial policy, SOCIBER has been awarded the so called "Sello ProPyme" given the Minister of Economics to those who comply with their financial compromises with small/medium entrepreneurs, before 30 days.

Even before the tragic events of September 11th, SOCIBER had a strong Facility Security Plan in place that was approved by the Chilean Maritime Authority. In recent years SOCIBER instituted extensive new measures to enhance the security of our employees, and that of our customers' crews and vessels while in dry dock or moored alongside.

All vessels at SOCIBER are protected twenty four hours by enhanced interior and perimeter lighting, camera surveillance and monitoring. Additional measures include 100% badge ID check of ALL persons entering the Floating Dry Dock, training of security personnel, employee security awareness training, and an improved and more comprehensive Facility Security Plan.

In accordance with the previous, on May 2004 SOCIBER Ltd. was granted with the International Ship and Port Facility Security - I.S.P.S. Code Certification delivered by the Chilean Maritime Authority.

Energy Management

Energy is not only an issue for SOCIBER operational costs; it can be even more critical having in mind our suppliers and subcontractors Energy consumption and costs. In addition a lack of Energy Management can impose environmental y societal costs, by depleting regional resources and contributing to problems as climate change.

We in SOCIBER believe we can improve the efficiency with which we Manage Energy and provide rapid benefits for reducing both, energy cost and consumption.

At this purpose SOCIBER has audited its productive processes and machinery involved, complying with the international standards required to certify the ISO 50.001 Energy Management Standards.

Environment Management

Environmental impact is becoming an increasingly important issue across the globe, our country and Valparaíso with pressure to minimize that impact coming from a wide number of sources: local and national governments, regulators, trade associations, customers, employees and shareholders.

SOCIBER is committed to address the balance between our becoming and activity, Ship Repairing, maintaining the sustainability and profitability of our business and reducing environmental impact.

Therefore, on 2011 SOCIBER Ltd. was granted with the ISO 14.001:2004 Environmental Management.
